Of course, one of the simplest strategies to reduce text spam, is to simply guard your cell phone number. If a site requires your number to download anything, then don’t download it. Don’t give your cell number to sales people, or businesses you don’t trust.

Some carriers offer an alias address rather than using the phone number as the text message address. Messages sent to the alias are delivered while messages sent to the cell number are discarded.

Most carriers also offer the option of disabling text messaging altogether. This an excellent solution for those of us who have no desire to use the text messaging feature on our phones. For those of us that do enjoy text messaging, the best solution is simply to not give out your number to sites that can not be trusted.
