There are many other things that we can look for to help us figure out which web sites are genuine and which are more likely to be spam. Every site usually has links to other sites we can visit for information.
Paying close attention to the types of links can be a clue. Are they links to well known and trusted sites? If they are not, it is likely that we will be led to another site where we will be inundated with yet more unwanted advertisements.
It is also important to know how long they have been around. Bookmark the site and check it a few months later to see if it is still around. Spam sites usually have a life span of two years or less.
See if it’s listed with directories such as Yahoo! or Librarian’s Internet Index. You could also check with places like YouTube, Facebook or Wikipedia. If you find an address or phone number on the site, check and see if the address or phone numbers are legitimate.
It is important to NEVER download or allow pop ups for a site you are unsure of as they may contain, maleware, viruses or spyware.
