A web banner ads are annoying flash images or words that blink and move constantly, distracting us from the information on the site. Some even have sound effects. Spam sites often place their banners on sites that have popular content, such as newspaper articles, game sites, or blogs.

Pop Up Goes The Ad

Pop-up ads are a type of online announcement that is used to entice potential customers or catch email addresses. These windows annoyingly pop up with an advertisement that most people click on in hopes of getting rid of it.

Domain names are what you see in your web browser when you visit a site. Spam sites usually have long domain names that contain multiple hyphens, or are stuffed with keywords.

There are many other things that we can look for to help us figure out which web sites are genuine and which are more likely to be spam. Every site usually has links to other sites we can visit for information.

Web Spam

Web pages consisting of ads and links to alternative sites that are almost entirely filled with ads are spam. We usually find them when we are searching for information on a particular subject.
