This short instruction will help you keep your Yahoo IM rather free of spam. First, set your profile as “Adult”. Then remove your profile from the Directory Listing. Here are the directions on how to do this:

  1. Sign in with your Yahoo ID at profiles.yahoo.com/your_user_name
  2. At the top of the page you will see “View My Profiles” that is the one you will need to select
  3. On the next page that appears you should see your Yahoo ID and next to it will be the option to “Edit” select this option
  4. Then you will see “Edit Profile Information” on the next page, select it.
  5. Near the bottom of the next page, CHECK “Designate this profile as an adult profile” then UNCHECK “Add this profile to the Yahoo Member Directory”.

This will make it harder for advertisers to find you. Also, when you set your profile to “adult”, anyone who wishes to see your profile has to physically log into Yahoo. This is something spam-bots are unable to do, which means they will pass you by. When you have finished making the changes, simply click save and you are set.
